Bred by Henry Lommerce, dahlia Decoretta was selected by Oro Farms for its uniformity and compact habit. This series is available in five bright colors: Orange, Violet, Scarlet, White and Yellow. Decoretta is a great addition to quart and 41/2-inch programs.

As with all dahlias, one of the most important things is to be sure a vegetative cutting is received from the supplier. Light the cuttings with at least 10 foot-candles as a night interruption from the time of sticking until transplant. This is necessary because dahlias initiate flowering very fast (as little as three days).

Be sure to stick cuttings deep and top the plant deep, up to the first leaves.Dahlias require a pH of 5.6 to 6.2 and an EC of 1.0 to 1.2 when using a two-to-one soil test.

Rooting temperatures should be around 72° F, and growing on the temperature should be 65 to 68° F.

As in any dahlia, powdery mildew can be an issue in some environments and they should be covered in spray programs. Decoretta dahlias require no pinch to promote branching.
