Fusarium Wilt — Fusarium oxysporum

Spotlight Name Archive: Wilts

Spotlight Header Archive: Disease Diagnostics Photo Library

Host: Fungi are very specific, attacking only plants with a close taxonomic relationship. Common hosts include China aster, chrysanthemum, dahlia, dianthus, cyclamen and other bulb crops.
Symptoms: The most obvious symptom is water stress or wilt that can readily kill sections of the plants. Symptoms are often similar to those of root rots and may include stunting and yellow or scorched leaves.
Conditions Favoring Disease: While still harboring the disease, systemically infected plants often do not appear infected until they are subjected to high temperatures, drought or some other stress condition favoring the disease.
How Pathogen Survives/Disperses: This disease is often introduced on asymptomatic plants, through the propagation of infected plants or on contaminated bulbs.
