Lobelia

Sunbelia is a new series of compact lobelia with high-density branching and good summer performance. Sunbelia is extremely grower friendly, early and uniform across the series.

In addition to being able to be grown at cool temperatures, no plant growth regulators are required. Plants are very floriferous and hold their mounded shape. Sunbelia is suitable for pots, bedding, combinations, window boxes and hanging baskets.

Recommended growing media is a well-drained peat/perlite mix. Maintain soil pH at 6.0 to 6.5. Keep soil moderately moist. Sunbelia grows best in high-moderate light.

Growing temperature should be 65 to 75° F days and 55 to 60° F nights. Apply constant feed at 100 to 200 ppm with a complete water-soluble fertilizer.

Timing is four to six weeks for a 4-inch pot with one liner and five to seven weeks for a 6-inch pot with two to three liners.

Common pests affecting lobelia are whiteflies, aphids and mites. For disease control, a broad-spectrum fungicidal drench is recommended after planting.
