Timbuk Farms Awarded MPS-ABC Certificate
Timbuk Farms, Granville, Ohio has completed its initial year of participation in the MPS-ABC Environmental Certification Program and has now been awarded their first MPS-ABC score.
“The MPS Score is a good tool to keep us on our game, informing us as to where we are using ‘best practices’ and where we might want to look at making changes to be a better, more sustainable company,” said Jim Gibson, Timbuk Farms’s owner.
Located just outside of Columbus, Ohio, approximately half of grower’s greenhouse production is young plants and half is finished plants. In addition to the greenhouses, Timbuk Farms also has 125 acres devoted to Christmas Trees.
Both the greenhouses and the tree farm register their uses of water, fertilizers, crop protection agents and energy in the MPS program. The MPS data base then analyzes the information and determines the score based on the crops grown and the environmental zone of the farm and greenhouses.
