Cobra is a compact mounding series bred specifically for pack use. Cobra has large flowers, is well branched, has exceptional disease tolerance and performs well in suboptimal conditions. ‘Cobra Passion Fruit’ features a pink center with a yellow eye, fading to salmon-red at flower ends. ‘Cobra Orchid Eye’ has purple-pink flowers with a yellow eye. Other colors in the series include: Rose, Purple Eye, Peppermint, Red, Red with Eye and White.
During germination, keep medium uniformly moist until seedlings are hooking above covering. Then dry down covering to control stretch and improve rooting. Soil temperature should be 75-80° F.
Transplant into a well-drained, peat-based growing mix with a pH of 5.5-5.8 and EC less than 1.5. Keep soil temperature at 70-72° F to root out, then lower to 68-70° F to grow on. Vinca grows better in warmer temperatures. Keep light levels at 3,000-5,000 foot-candles or higher.
Do not keep too wet; grow on the drier side with some wilt. However, watering lightly but frequently will create more foliar diseases. Feed once a week with 150-ppm nitrogen from 15-5-15, 17-5-17 or 13-2-13.
