Viola

October 26, 2010 - 00:00

Part of the Cool Season Thrivers collection, Sorbet plants are early blooming and remain compact in both heat and cold, making them a standout performer in spring and fall. Plants cover the soil at flowering, with more blooms on every plant and less stretching. Sorbet’s vigor assures greater germination earliness, and plug and garden performance.

The level of starter nutrient charge incorporated into the growing mix influences crop quality. A low charge can result in a crop that will flower before enough foliage has grown to fill the packs/container.

Provide day temperatures of 60° F and night temperatures of 50-55° F for greenhouse production. No supplemental lighting is required.

A week after transplant, begin fertilizing with 150-ppm nitrogen once a week when grown in the greenhouse. Additional fertilization may be needed if grown outside. Maintain an EC of 1.5 and a pH of 5.6-5.8 after transplant until finish.

To produce the best-quality violas, grow them outside beginning a week after transplant under cold frame-type conditions.
