Color Combo for 2016 By Jasmina Dolce

By now you may have heard that Pantone – the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards – has announced the 2016 Color of the Year. For the first time ever, Pantone has blended two shades – Rose Quartz and Serenity – as the color of the year. According to Pantone, consumers are seeking mindfulness and well-being, and are becoming drawn to colors that psychologically fulfill their yearning for reassurance and security. Rose Qaurtz and Serenity demonstrate this balance between a warmer rose tone and a cool tranquil blue.

As a supplier of color and decor for the home and landscape, I know it is important for growers to stay on top of color trends. Consumers and business owners look to these trends to decide how they’ll decorate and stock their homes and businesses. Will you be taking advantage of this softer take on color for 2016? There are plenty of options available from many breeders. Here are some worth considering:

Scaevola ‘Scampi Pink’ (Green Fuse Botanicals)
Scaevola Scampi Pink 2 Green Fuse

Lobelia ‘Magadi Electric Blue’ (Selecta)

Diascia ‘MyDarling Melon’ (Dümmen Orange)

Ageratum ‘Cloud Nine Blue’ (Floranova)
Ageratum Cloud Nine Blue 3 Floranova

Monarda ‘Leading Lady Lilac’ (Proven Winners)

Verbena ‘Lanai Blue Eyes’ (Syngenta Flowers)

Salvia ‘Summer Jewel Pink’ (American Takii)

Scilla ‘Caribbean Jewels Cayman’ (Golden State Bulb Growers)

What are your thoughts on Pantone’s color of the year? Are you growing any of the above varieties? While they are stunning on their own, imagine putting some of them together in a mixed presentation to really demonstrate the combination of the two hues that make up the 2016 Color of the Year!
