Grow Your PGR Knowledge By Tim Hodson

Are you using plant growth regulators in your greenhouse? How well versed are you and your production team when it comes to PGRs?

If you are looking for answers on how to use plant growth regulators, then you should sign up for GPN’s second Plant Health Management webinar.

The topic for the free webinar is “Proper Use of Plant Growth Regulators.” Roger C. Styer of Styer’s Horticultural Consulting, Inc., will be our presenter.

It will take place on Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. eastern standard time.

During the one-hour webinar, you will have a chance to learn the basics of commonly used growth regulators, how to apply them, and how to adjust for vigor of crops and weather conditions.

Styer will cover some key examples of successful growth control — from plugs to poinsettias — to help growers control crop growth properly. Participants will learn which growth regulator to use when, how much and how often, and how to overcome any overdoses that may occur.

Styer operates his own independent consulting company helping growers across North America be more successful with all aspects of growing ornamentals.

Prior to creating his consulting company, Styer worked for George J. Ball, Ball Seed Company and PanAmerican Seed Company, conducting research on flower seed production and quality, and transplant (plug) production and technology.

He also worked for Fides-Oro as technical representative in North America.

Styer has provided technical services for the ornamental industry, both domestically and internationally. He has worked with companies in Asia, Central and South America and Europe, as well as traveled extensively in North America.

If you are looking to grow your PGR knoweldge, then circle Nov. 29 on your calendar.

If you missed our first webinar on “Insect Control Strategies for Greenhouse Growers” that Raymond Cloyd presented earlier this month, you can still view it on-demand and for free on www.gpnmag.com.

During the 45-minute webinar, Cloyd from Kansas State University takes a look at different techniques that growers can use to identify and manage thrips in their greenhouses.
