A New Year to Conquer By Tim Hodson

Happy New Year!

It’s hard to believe, but 2017 is already here. I don’t know about you, but I’m still trying to figure out what happened to 2016.

Time flies when you’re having fun (or not), doesn’t it? Are you ready for the new year? Have you updated your 2017 calendar with all of the important dates that will take place during the next 12 months?

Hopefully by now you have all of your important production dates well planned out. And you know all of the dates for the industry events that you will be attending this year. You may even have your 2017 vacation dates scheduled as well as important birthdays and anniversaries.

I found some additional dates that may or may not be of interest to you this year.

Today is actually Festival of Sleep Day “for people that would like to get some shut eye and relaxation after the holidays.” So, if you are still in recovery mode from the holiday season you just may want to celebrate today.

Next month on Feb. 5, we will “celebrate” National Weatherman’s Day while March 22 is International Goof Off Day.

In April, some people will observe Fun at Work Day on April 1. When May 11 rolls around, get ready to loosen your belt a notch or two for Eat What You Want Day.

June and July bring a couple of days that really may be of interest to growers — June 5 is World Environment Day and July 27 is Take Your Plants for a Walk Day.

A total solar eclipse will take place on Aug. 21. The first one in nearly 40 years.

In September, Be Late for Something Day will take place Sept. 5 and International Moment of Frustration Day is set for Oct. 12 (this is one you might want to avoid).

November brings National Day of Listening on Nov. 29 — something everyone could probably benefit from. And the year closes out with National Chocolate Covered Anything Day on Dec. 16.

Welcome to 2017! While these aren’t your traditional holidays, they might make for some interesting conversation starters in the new year.

I hope each and every day of 2017 is a good one for you!
