Time to Catch Your Breath By Tim Hodson

May is a crazy time for just about everyone in our industry. Spring is in full swing with Mother’s Day and Memorial Day weekends keeping everyone on their toes.

And time really flies when you’re having fun, right? So now that the month has come and gone, I thought I’d take this opportunity to point out some of the highlights in the May issue of GPN — just in case you missed it.

The issue was loaded with variety information that you may want to take a look at for your growing operation.

Justin Hancock provided us with an overview of the top five performers in the Costa Farms Trial Garden this year, while Vaughn Fletcher gave us his thoughts on the performance of Westflowers’ latest varieties. Paul Pilon took a look at drought-tolerant perennials, and we also learned how growers can take advantage of consumers’ demand for homegrown herbs.

We also learned about a series of lupine from Beth Gulley. This series is from tissue culture and has some never-before-seen colors.

Erik Runkle’s Technically Speaking column delivers a great tutorial on how plant growth regulators work, and the issue also contained the final installment of our three-part series covering research on the cost of irrigation water for greenhouse growers. Another hot topic for growers that was covered in May was the challenges of globalization.

And of course, the May issue is where we always unveil the latest class of GPN’s 40 Under 40. Have you met the Class of 2017 yet?

Hopefully, you will have a little time to catch your breath and catch up on your reading in the coming days. Just in case you can’t find your May issue, click here to access the digital edition.

Keep an eye on your mailbox, the June issue is in the mail — it is loaded with even more information to help you be more successful in your greenhouse.
