Fafard to Build Manitoba Plant

A wholly-owned Canadian subsidiary of Conrad Fafard, Inc., FPM Peat Moss Company Ltd., recently announced its plan to build a peat processing and mix facility in Manitoba. The new plant will allow Fafard to better serve markets in the central and western United States.

Construction of the 32,00-square-foot facility is slated to begin this month. The plant is scheduled to open in November. It will manufacture packaged peat moss and peat-based professional mixes and potting soils. Thirty seasonal workers and five full-time workers will be employed.

Griffin Acquires Georgia Supply Company

Griffin Greenhouse and Nursery Supplies, Inc. recently announced that effective May 6, 2008, it had acquired Progress Growers Supply Company in Ball Ground, Ga. The Progress Growers Staff will remain with Griffin. William Hotz, past president of the Georgia Flower Growers Association, will be the manager of this location.

PBH Nature’s Media Amendment Goes Organic

The Organic Materials Review Institute (OMRI) now lists PBH Nature’s Media Amendment as a product suitable for certified organic production, handling and processing, according to a PBH press release.

PBH Nature’s Media Amendment is a uniquely processed rice hull media amendment used as a replacement for perlite in growing media. Approval as an OMRI-listed product verifies its organic nature.
