How Was It? By Tim Hodson

Now that it’s June, hopefully you are getting a chance to catch your breath and start to take a look at what happened this spring.

What I have been hearing from growers and retailers across the county, Spring 2012 has been an eventful one.

Thanks to record temperatures, consumers came out of hibernation earlier this year — and they were ready to buy! It will be interesting to hear what the final sales numbers are.

So how was your spring? Up? Down? The same as 2011? Was the weather in your area kind to you?

Now that we’ve made it through the spring season, have you started planning for 2013 yet?

As Seen In…California

If you didn’t make it to California Spring Trials this year, be sure to check out Jasmina Radjevic’s article on page 14.

This month Jasmina takes a look at a few of the trends that were on display in March during our trip up the California coast.

In the July issue of GPN, we will be featuring many of the new varieties that were introduced during Spring Trials.

Don’t forget to check out our Flickr photo page on www.californiaspringtrials.com where we have posted more than 100 photos from the Trials. And be sure to tune into Hort TV on our website — www.gpnmag.com — for video highlights of 2012 California Spring Trials.

And if you want even more new variety information, you can subscribe to Jasmina’s Culture Connection e-newsletter on our website, too.
