Colorado State University has released the "Best of..." varieties from its 2012 annual trial garden in Ft. Collins. In this year's trials, CSU had approximately 1,100 entries from 20 different national and international companies.

More than 25 different categories were judged in this year's trials and Dümmen USA's dahlia 'XXL Hidalgo was selected as the Best of Show variety.

These decisions were based on evaluations done by more than 100 people from various backgrounds on Aug. 6, and a second evaluation done by the Trial Garden Evaluation Committee on Sept. 6. The Ft. Collins weather from June to mid-September was extremely hot (many days above 90° F.) with very little rainfall.
