Horticulture Initiative Award AnnouncedSource: Southeast Greenhouse Conference

Dr. Paul Nelson, of North Carolina State University’s Department of Horticultural Science, has been selected to receive the 2005 Horticulture Initiative Award from the Southeast Greenhouse Conference. Dr. Nelson will continue the distinguished line of recipients for the annually presented award recognizing a person for significant contributions to the floriculture industry.

Southeast Greenhouse Conference’s Board of Directors has chosen Nelson for his extensive research on many aspects of greenhouse operations and his multitude of publications (both textbooks and professional papers). While maintaining the class load of a teaching professor, he is also continuously researching the substrate and nutrition needs of greenhouse crops.

Nelson has also been a long-standing supporter and presenter at the Southeast Greenhouse Conference. By helping to promote educational opportunities in the Southeast, Nelson has espoused the principle goals of the Southeast Greenhouse Conference mission. The award presentation will take place at the Opening Session of the Southeast Greenhouse Conference, June 23, 2005 at the Palmetto Expo Center in Greenville, S.C.

Last year’s winner was Dr. Jim Barrett from the University of Florida and GPN’s consulting editor. For more information on the Southeast Greenhouse Conference visit www.sgcts.org.
