Lucas Greenhouses Hosts Syngenta Flowers’ Trials
Syngenta Flowers’ extensive vegetative offerings were recently on display at the Syngenta Flowers Open House at Lucas Greenhouses in Monroeville, N.J., and GPN was there. Last week, GPN Associate Editor Jasmina Radjevic had the opportunity to check out Syngenta Flowers’ extensive vegetative offerings on display at the Syngenta Flowers Open House at Lucas Greenhouses in Monroeville, N.J.
The company changed the location this year; the event had previously been held at the company’s headquarters in Boulder, Colo. Lucas Greenhouses offered more space and more accurate growing conditions, so it was definitely interesting to see how the varieties would perform. Radjevic’s tour guide was the 2008 GPN/Nexus Intern of the Year, Eric Pitzen, who is now a trial coordinator for Syngenta Flowers.
One of the crowd favorites was Syngenta Flower’s Kwik Kombos program, the 3-in-1 custom-grown mixed liners. The mixed combination displays were quite impressive. And as the GPN staff observed at the California Pack Trials, the hybrid geranium selections showed attractive flowers and strong heat tolerance. They performed just as nicely on the East Coast as they did on the West Coast earlier this year.
Next on Syngenta Flowers’ agenda is the company’s fall trials, where the Yoder brand mum and aster assortment will be on display. Save the date: Sept. 24, 2009.
