Benary Makes Staff, Operational ChangesSource: Benary

German seed company Benary recently appointed Douglas Holden as new head of the breeding department, effective Nov. 1. “His profound breeding capabilities as well as his extensive experience in our industry will help us to further improve our research and development,” said a press release on the appointment. Benary also has made Orlando de Ponti, president of the
International Seed Federation, part of its supervisory board.

To reduce organizational complexities, Benary will reduce the number of its breeding and production locations from seven to five, part of a climatic and hemispheric optimization of the company’s activities. This reduction includes the closing of Benary’s operations in Lompoc, Calif., as of January 2010. As a result of this decision, the company will not participate in the 2010 California Spring Trials; instead, Benary will shift its participation to a biennial cycle (returning in 2011). The company will be represented at the 2010 European FlowerTrials and the Chinese Pack Trials in Hangzhou, however.
