Industry Professionals Prepare for SAF’s Congressional Action DaysSource: SAF

Next week, floriculture takes the nation’s capital by storm. More than 110 Society of American Florists (SAF) members from 40 companies and 27 states will discuss their business concerns with lawmakers in Washington, D.C. during SAF Congressional Action Days.

Here are some of the discussions planned for their visit to Capitol Hill:

  • Immigration Reform: Creating a workable H-2A guest worker program, helping experienced but unauthorized farm workers already earn the right to transition to legal status and enacting provisions to secure our borders and improve security.
  • Estate Tax Reform: This tax prevents family businesses and farms from growing and surviving beyond one generation.
  • Research: The priorities of the Floriculture and Nursery Research Initiative focus on improved product quality, crop-production tools, protection against pests and diseases, and environmental stewardship.

In addition to these talking points, participants have been trained in lobbying techniques and presentation strategies that will maximize their impact during their time in Washington. For more information on Congressional Action Days, keep an eye out on SAF’s website for updates and photos from the event.
